Today was the last day of school!  We had an assembly and our class stood on the stage and sang our national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner".  We have learned many great patriotic songs this year, including THREE verses of "God Bless America".  Wow!  We have learned so much this year and I am so proud of your hard work!  I hope that you have a wonderful summer and I'm very happy that you will be Mill Lake 3rd graders so that I can see you next year!  Don't forget to read, write and practice math facts this summer.  Your third grade teachers will be so proud of you..... just like I am!

I spent some time at Mill Lake this morning filing papers and putting things away for the summer.  It's lonely at Mill Lake without all of you.  Nicholas and I started the summer off with a lot of fun when we went to see "Inside Out" at the movie theater.  Movie theater seats are so comfortable now!  I was so relaxed that I almost fell asleep.  LOL!  We enjoyed the movie.  Some parts were funny and some parts were even a bit sad.  Have you seen any good movies this summer?

Nicholas and I went miniature golfing today.  We enjoyed it!  I won the first round and Nicholas won the second round.  Nicholas got a hole in one twice!  Isn't it interesting that winners in golf have a lower score than their opponents?  Most sports are the other way around.  Hope you're having a great weekend!

I hope that you had a great Fourth of July!  Have you been watching the Women's World Cup?  The U.S. Women's team did it!  They won the World Cup by beating Japan's National Team in the championship game by a score of 5-2.  New Jersey's own Carli Lloyd scored three goals!  That's called a hat trick.  What a game! I'm surprised you didn't hear me cheering all the way from your house.  LOL!  Go USA!

Today we celebrated my nephew's first birthday!  Brian will officially turn one on Wednesday.  What a great year it has been!  Nicholas had fun playing with his cousin and his birthday cake was delicious.  Brian had his own smash cake which he seemed to enjoy!

Nicholas' baseball team won the state championship game tonight!  They beat Franklin Township's baseball team 17-3.  They are Northern New Jersey's 8u Cal Ripken champions!  Next week, they'll head to the Middle Atlantic Regional Tournament to play teams from Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York.  Congratulations to the team!  We are so proud of you!

Today was Dr. Barberi's last day as the principal of Mill Lake School.  Ms. Mignoli is a great principal and I can't wait for all of you to get to know her.  Some of the Mill Lake staff members gathered at Mill Lake today to give Dr. Barberi a surprise send-off.  Thank you for everything you have done to make Mill Lake a great place, Dr. B!  You will be missed.  Congratulations!  Enjoy your retirement!

Today was a Six Flags day!  Nicholas and I had a terrific time at Great Adventure!  Some of our favorite rides are The Log Flume, Congo Rapids, Runaway Train and the Sky Buckets.  We went on Zoomanjaro for the first time last year and we enjoyed it, but the line was too long this weekend.  What are some of your favorite rides?

Today was an exciting day for the Fletcher family!  My brother, Michael, and his wife Victoria, welcomed their first child, Andrew Joseph.  My nephew was born at 4:30 in the afternoon.  He weighs 7 pounds, 3 ounces and he is 21 inches long.  My parents now have three grandsons - Nicholas, my nephew, Brian, and my new nephew, Andrew.

Here are some pictures from today.  The first picture is of Michael, Victoria and Andrew.  The second picture is of Nicholas holding Andrew.  The third picture is of my older brother, Brian, his wife, Christina, my nephew, Brian III and Andrew.  The fourth picture shows my dad holding Andrew, sitting with my mom and the proud father.  The last picture is Andrew and me.  Sorry for all of the pictures today, but new babies are exciting and I'm very glad to share this wonderful Fletcher family news with you!  You'll probably hear me mention Nicholas, Brian or Andrew during the school year.

How is your summer going?  It's been very hot this week!  We have had three consecutive days of temperatures at 90 degrees or higher so it is officially a heat wave.  I hope you're staying cool in the air conditioning, swimming or running through the sprinklers.  Unfortunately, it's a bit too hot to spend too much time outside.  Maybe next week will be cooler!  I hope you're practicing your reading, writing and math skills too.  Those are great indoor activities for very hot or rainy summer days.  I have been busy setting up Room 303 at Mill Lake School.  It will be all set for the first day of school and it will look even better when you arrive.  Here's a picture of the bulletin board in the hallway.  Your smile already brightens the second grade hallway at Mill Lake!
