Welcome to Second Grade
  • Dear Families,

I hope you are enjoying your summer.  I am looking forward to being your child’s second grade teacher and the fantastic year we will have together!

    Useful Information About Our Class

    Snack

Your child may bring in a healthy snack. As we do not eat lunch until after noon, we will be having snack in the morning. The exact time will vary depending on our schedule for that day.  Please provide your child with a easy to eat, healthy snack daily. If you will be sending in a drink, it should be water, no juice. We have our snack at our desks and spilled juice makes a big mess. We do have a water fountain in the classroom.  Students may keep a water bottle in their cubby or on their desk.

    Lunch and Recess

If your child is planning to buy lunch and you do not use an online account,  please place the lunch money in an envelope labeled with your child’s name.   Further information will be sent home to you about pricing, lunch tickets and the menu.  Your child will go outside weather permitting each day for recess. Please make sure that he/she is dressed appropriately for outdoor play.

    Arrival/Dismissal

If your child will have a change in his/her dismissal schedule, please let me know in writing- NOT EMAIL. Sometimes technology is down or a substitute is in the room without access to email.  If your child attends the after school program please put that in writing as well. If a change occurs during the school day,  please call the main office.

    Parent Volunteers

We have a wonderful program in our classroom called “Mystery Reader”.  Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles etc. are invited into our classroom to read a book to the class.  More information about this program will be given at Back to School Night. Mill Lake School also has a fabulous P.T.O. and I encourage you to become active in the organization.

    Reading with your child

We will be doing a lot of reading at school, but reading at home is very important.  I will be reading a variety of great books to your child throughout the year. Your child will also be reading with me individually, in small groups, independently and as part of their homework.  It is extremely important that we work together to make your child become the best reader they can be. Reading to your child or reading along with your child will benefit them unbelievably. I hope that together we can help your child develop a love of reading.

    Communication

I believe that communication and cooperation between home and school is extremely important. Please be sure to check your child’s folder daily for notes from school, work samples, notices etc.  If you would like to ask me a question, let me know of a change in dismissal etc, you can send a note with your child. You can also reach me with any questions via email tamar.lopez@monroe.k12.nj.us.  I use email as my main form of communication with parents. Please fill out and return to me on the first day of school. I also use an app called ClassDojo to post pictures. You will be receiving more information on that as the year begins.

*If you have an urgent message or a change in dismissal please call the main office at 732-251-5336.

I am looking forward to having a wonderful fun filled year with your child! Once again, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.  I welcome the partnership! I look forward to meeting you at our Back to School Night in September.

Thank you in advance for all of your support and help!  Have a safe and happy summer!
