Homework and Reading with your Child!

  • Homework

Homework is a way for students to further practice the skills that they have learned and for me to assess their understanding.  Homework will be assigned every day except for Friday.  Your child’s homework should not take more than 20 minutes per night.  Most nights of homework will include reading and a math sheet from the day's lesson. The homework will be placed in your child’s Mill Lake folder each night. Please return the homework to school each day and use pencil only. Please be sure to check your child’s work and offer support if needed.

    Reading with your child

I can’t stress the importance of this! Your child will be learning how to read and the more he/she is exposed to reading the more he/she will gain a love for it!  I will be reading a variety of great books to your child throughout the year. Your child will also be reading with me one on one or in a small group each day.  It is extremely important that we work together to make your child become the best reader they can be. Reading to your child or reading along with your child at least 4 times per week will benefit them unbelievably. Children will be bringing home a book to read each night that I read with them during small group instruction. Please return the book in their folder every day. I ask you to guide and support them as needed. Children need to be surrounded by reading as much as possible because they learn by example.  A love for reading can be contagious!
