Ms. Nicole Gomes
6th Grade School Counselor
(last names Mc-Z)My primary role is to support all students so that they can be academically successful, socially skilled, and emotionally healthy. The middle school years can be a difficult transitional period for many young people and I help them navigate the challenges they face during this time. I take a very holistic approach to support student well-being, combining nonjudgemental feedback, guidance, and unconditional positive regard to support student growth and development. My training and experience comes from my undergraduate Psychology degree with a specialization in Clinical/Counseling from The College of New Jersey and I recieved my Masters Degree and license in School Counseling from Monmouth University in 2018.
As a School Counselor, I provide individualized counseling check-ins with students, small group counseling, facilitate conflict resolution, support restorative justice practices, oversee 504 Plan Case Management, and provide various school-wide and classroom programming to support students' social, emotional, and academic development.
I encourage students and parents to contact me regarding any issue they are concerned about. Students or parents can email me at ngomes@monroe.k12.nj.us or nicole.gomes@monroe.k12.nj.us. Students can make appointments to speak with me in any of the following ways: by sending me an email, stopping by my office (room 117-C) in the Guidance Suite behind Mrs. Pole, or letting their classroom teacher know they'd like to speak with me.
I look forward to meeting and working with many students and parents this year in efforts to make the transition to middle school the best it can be.
