Elementary Physical Education Guidelines
1. Appropriate Attire: Students must wear suitable footwear, such as sneakers with laces and non-marking soles, for safety. Jewelry is not allowed during physical education classes.
2. Medical Excuses: Students with medical reasons preventing them from participating must still attend class. A parental note excusing activity is valid for up to two classes. Notes should be given to the school nurse before class.
3. Extended Excuses: For absences exceeding two consecutive classes, a physician's note is required. Students with a doctor's excuse need written permission from the physician to resume regular activity.
4. Recess Exclusion: Students medically excused from physical education cannot participate in recess.
5. Communication: Medical notes received by the school nurse will be shared with the physical education department.
6. Safety Discussions: The school nurse will review physical education restrictions and safety procedures, including emergency protocols like fire drills and evacuations, with students.
7. Medical Devices: Medical notes are necessary for any medical devices or appliances, such as splints, boots, braces, and wraps. Students using crutches without a medical note will be sent home.
