MONROE TOWNSHIP ESL PROGRAMThe Monroe Township ESL Program includes students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.Oak Tree/Applegarth, Diana Kaiser at the High School and Nawon Park at Mill Lake.Students who enter the Monroe schools speaking primarily a language other than Englishmay be in need of additional assistance in learning English and in maintaining progress inthe regular program.Monroe has an English as a Second Language (ESL) program for English Language Learners(ELLs) available in all grades, K-12. In order to determine which students need to be placed inthe ELL program, a language test is given within the school. Children who qualify receivespecialized daily instruction in all aspects of English: understanding, speaking, reading, andwriting, which will better prepare them for their school careers and their life in the UnitedStates. A letter is sent home advising parents of this opportunity; however, they have theright to refuse these services. Students receive one period daily of ELL instruction.
