"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world.  Love of books is the best of all." Jacqueline Kennedy

I cannot stress the importance of this!!  Your child will be learning how to read, and the more he/she is exposed to reading, the more he/she will gain a love for it.  I will be reading a variety of great books to your child this year.  Your child will also be reading along with me each and every day.  It is extremely important that we work together to help make your child become a strong and independent reader.  Reading to your child, or reading along with your child at least 4 times a week will help them to become better readers.

*Your child will be bringing home their guided reading/leveled books almost everyday once our Guided Reading groups begin.  They'll also be bringing home their independent books in their "book bag" each night.  It's very important that children read each night for homework.

To help your child become a better reader, please encourage them to use their reading strategies that they have learned in class.  Please do not tell your child a word that he/she may get stuck on.  In addition, feel free to ask your child comprehension questions to check and see whether or not they understood the story.  The books are also sent home to practice fluency, which is reading like we speak at the right "pace"!  By reading the same text over and over again, several times, your child's fluency will improve which is an important part of being a good reader!!

**IMPORTANT:  Please remind your child to put their leveled books back into their "book bag" and return the bag to school each morning.  Thank you in advance!!
