• What is Guided Reading?

Guided Reading allows the teacher to better meet the individual needs of students, while working in a small group.  Students are assessed in the beginning of the year to see what their current reading level is.  From there, students are placed in Guided Reading groups based on their current reading level.  The groups consist of students who are reading on or around the same reading level.  I assess the students’ reading levels every other month to measure progression.  As students progress, their reading groups change and so do the levels of books that we read within the group.  In this group, students learn new reading strategies and learn how to use them when reading a text.  They are able to practice their phonics and reading skills taught in class.  Each Guided Reading group consists of about 4-5 students.  I meet with each reading group everyday, Monday-Thursday.
