In the area of Reading and Writer's Workshops, all students will utilize a Reader's and Writer's Notebook decorated with pictures that represent themselves and their families.  In our workshops, we will explore short stories, novels, articles, poems, informational text, opinion articles, reader's theatre, encoding, and decoding word patterns.  Each child will be learning at their instructional and independent levels throughout the school year in order to grow in reading/writing along with focusing on individualized skills. Graphic organizers will always be used with prompting labels and questions in the area of writing to help students organize their stories and essays. Lastly, our good readers will continue to use strategies as they read, such as the use of metacognitive strategies, chunking words, fix-up strategies, connections, summarizing, and inferences. We will explore these strategies and much more and use repetition to help us learn in all classes.

As we begin the school year, you will find webpages for skills that we will work on. Remember research indicates if a child reads every day for only 20 minutes, this could increase their reading level by the end of the school year. Let's keep reading together.
