Welcome to the Oak Tree Band!
    Last Updated 10/14/11
Welcome to the Band Webpage at Oak Tree School.  Here you will be able to find information about our lessons, rehearsals, and concerts.   Our calendar will soon be updated for upcomnig rehearsals and concerts.
At Oak Tree School we offer Advanced Band, to band students in grade 5 who have participated in band for at least one year on their current instrument.  Advanced Band meets as a full band during zero period (8:20 - 9:05) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Transportation for Zero Period is provided by the township.  Advanced Band Zero period is scheduled to begin on September 21st, 2011.  Advanced Band students will participate in the Winter Concert, and the Spring Concert, and may also participate in music field trips.
Beginning Band is offered to students in grades 4 and 5 who are new to their instrument or to band.  Lessons begin in October once instruments arrive.  Beginning band will not meet during zero period, but will perform in the Spring Concert.
Lessons are held for all band students in weekly thirty-minute group lessons.  The time for your child’s lesson will rotate to insure that they will not continually miss the same class; however the day will remain the same so they know what days they are required to bring their instrument into school.
All students are required to practice a minimum of 105 minutes per week in order to earn a top grade in their lesson!
One good regimen for daily practice is to have your child finish his or her most difficult homework subject immediately after school, and then practice the instrument for 5 minutes.  Then he or she should proceed to the second most difficult subject, and practice for 5 minutes after that.  Then on to the third subject, and then practice for 5 minutes.  This is a great way to break up the monotony of homework, while ensuring that your child is doing his or her band homework as well!
Students will be able to hear selections from our concerts, by clicking on their instrument in the menu to the left.  They can click on a piece, hear their part, and play along!  Once students can play their parts from beginning to end, they should try to play along with the full band recording!
This website also includes  fingering charts for each instrument!
